Staff will be able to access training in both sustainability and Carbon Literacy. Sustainability themes will be included in lesson observations, with Sustainability Development Goals set for departments which will be embedded into teaching and learning.

Students at all of our CCG colleges will participate in carbon literacy development sessions and will have the opportunity to earn ‘digital badges’ to reflect their learning achievements.

               Students will be able to access information about green skills and careers within the industry areas that they have chosen to study. Our careers team have developed their advice & guidance service to help students consider what they can do to impact a greener future through their career choices. They’ll also be given support to help them ask the questions that matter to them around environmental issues at future employers and to be able to discuss the subject in an informed and respectful manner.

Green skills and job awareness will also be built into careers fairs, with a focus on companies with green credentials as well as ensuring employers are prepared to welcome questions about their own sustainability agendas.

Students will be able to take part in enrichment opportunities with environmental and sustainability themes. Enrichment trips will be organised with environmental focuses – in the 2023/24 academic year these included whale and dolphin conservation in Tenerife.

Every CCG college’s Student Union and Student Executive have a key focus of Environment & Sustainability and will develop year-long projects which support this. Current and previous projects include beach cleans, community gardens, wildlife reintroduction and recycling projects.

Through on-programme delivery of courses, extending schemes of work will include and embed the 17 world Sustainable Development Goals (adopted by the United Nations) with the aim of tackling climate change. This will ensure students and apprentices at CCG colleges will be able to access enriching opportunities to apply their understanding to their chosen subjects and industry specialisms.

Departments are also encouraged to embed more sustainable working and learning practices into their teaching facilities. Current examples of this include, but are not limited to:

• Northbrook College (Motor vehicle)
  The reuse of oils and lubricants, where possible, and Level 1 students complete a level 1 Electric Vehicle Course, which is planned to expand through the level 2 and level 3 courses in the coming years.
• Northbrook College (Theatre)
  The college aims to meet guidance set out by the Theatre Green Book, an initiative set out by the industry to encourage more sustainable working methods.
• Northbrook College (Early Years)
  Students are taught about sustainability issues and equipped with the knowledge to be able to share with young children.
• Chichester College (Hair)
  The salon at Chichester College is part of the Green Salon Collective, enabling students and staff to recycle materials such as used foils, colour tubes, salon towels – even hair!
• Chichester College (Foundation Programmes)
  Students on foundation programme courses have created a living wall, using green community funding.
• Crawley College (Green Village)
  The Green Village at Crawley aims to raise awareness of climate change, de-carbonisation and green technologies. As well as being a resource all students will be able to access, it will also be open to schools, residents and employers.

Qualifications and course specifications will be reviewed regularly to ensure green units and topics are being considered and embedding into course delivery.
